My wife constantly takes pics of the kid and asks me to take videos etc. I don't mind, but I am not as enthused as her. And I barely look at those pictures again. Photos/Videos never appealed to me even before having a kid. I only like to snap a very candid picture that I think is special. Anything orchestrated makes me not want to do it. Are dads (and in general men) more inclined to be this way vs moms?

My wife and I look at pics of the family just about every single day. She takes most of them but I look forward to seeing what I missed out on that day. And I love watching the little one grow over time. Def not the male propensity to take lots of photos. But we can still enjoy them 🙂

I would guess so. That said, I'm glad I took a lot of mine. I wish I had taken more long-form video. I really enjoy watching videos and remembering them when they were a newborn, a toddler, or a 5 yo. Like when my son was obsessed with a yellow watering can. The time with them at each stage goes so fast.

I’ve learned the thing with kids is, the little person soon gets replaced with a big person, never to be seen again in real life. Before kids I wasn’t big on taking pics, but now I’m grateful to have photos and videos, even of the mundane. Every expression is a treasure to me 📷

I'm the opposite :) I take a lot of pics. Nothing staged though. Snapped a lot of memorable moments this way. Worst that could happen? If you take them, you might not look at them If you don't take them, you won't be able to look at them

As a father, I'm definitely the opposite. I love pictures. They are memories incarnate. I highly recommend you get videos of the goofy way your kid learns to crawl, or the lisp they have or that stage when they can run but they don't have the mechanics down well and it's adorable. Too soon it will all be gone. That's my feeling. I take amazing photos. I may not need them today, but I know there will be a time in the future when I will give anything to return to these times in whatever way I can. Balance the being in the moment to have the experience but also recording some for the future is my rec.
