One of the most frustrating things is seeing someone's ENS and wanting to reach out to them but having no means of actually doing so. Pasting the ENS into FC/Twitter/Telegram sometimes works but otherwise its just a dead end connection. What's the latest on onchain messaging and how to "DM" someone to their wallet?

This problem needs a schelling point in the re-launch of the coinbase wallet @xmtp , but with the new protocol level consent controls and a yet-to-be-made ai filtering of your inbox

Could lead to a lot of spam, but perhaps you’d have to pay them to message them. Kind of like @balajis.eth’s earn.com (before it got acquired by Coinbase)

Agreed. ENS should have a simple message chat function IMO

Airstack is decent at finding fc accounts by connected address, but no one ever responds to my wallet DMs (on the etherscan chat thing)

Haven’t used it in a while but Coinbase wallet messaging (via xmtp I think) has worked for me before, not sure what it’s like on the receiving end for cold outreach, but I was 1 for 1

There's prob not a way yet since onchain comms hasn't really taken off. Those who are in DeSoc would already be on fc or lens for example. What kind of onchain behavior are you trying to attract / reward? If the user is a repeat minter, they should be familiar with your work and can maybe reach out through a special ed drop with contact details in the description? I.e meet them where they are at

/xmtp is probably closest, but lacks widespread adoption sending an eth transaction containing a message might be the most effective way to reach someone assuming they have transaction notifications on for that account

+1, this has been one of our biggest challenges with Kiwi. I see someone minting but then have to put on my detective hat and try to find them on Farcaster, Twitter or Lens. Very often I can't do it. Atm my go to solution is putting their ENS name in Zapper but I hope we'll have some onchain msging

A few years back I would have said try Status.app but same problem as with others, the chance that they are signed up is nil. I would just send an 0 ETH transaction with the message in the calldata and some wallets may show the message, or they can check Etherscan.

@xmtp how about creating a state of onchain messaging report for 2024?

gotta wait until a real clear night and then use the bat signal modified with their private key, only works on ETH and Ultrasound Money Frequency. also had luck with passenger pigeon if its a short distance, but you never know when you send them out what that may be. xmtp - someday, someday, someday. remains a challenge with spam and unwanted communication that clouds direct communication... hopefully some gigabrained dev is in founder mode and solving as we type.

Sending a tx of a small amount with a message is probably the best way. You could try messaging on etherscan but the above is probably better. Other than that billboard in times square or superbowl commercial.
