I am seriously thinking about learning to code and I need some advice. What would be the best language to learn? Is there a way to learn it on my own using online resources? Is there an app for that? How long does it take to learn from zero to something useful?

I have a bit of a rusty background in coding, so I'm now doing TypeScript, which seems to be the go-to language for frames on farcaster. I am taking a course on codecademy, and it works for me. It's not that hard, more like solving a good puzzle. I think you need to have a grasp of data structures and of logic. That will bring you far. But with the current hype of vibe coding, you might as well grab a piece of code from somewhere, ask ChatGPT for the code of what you want to do and use that as legos for your app.

What do you want to code? Apps, webpages, smart contracts, etc…

It really depends on what you want to do. Typescript is the most useful IMO if you want to make web apps. Solidity if you want to make ethereum stuff, but then you need to have a web app in front. You could also research all those AI tools for web apps like bolt.new or v0.dev

Keep learning! Not expert but I think Python is the most practical language 🤔

TypeScript with Next.js is a good start if you want to utilise vscode with Copilot or Cursor for code generation. Then you can start prompting simple apps and learn as you go :)

it helps if you have an objective. Is there anything you would love to build and feel like you need to code it?

If I were you I would start a free online python course for beginners and also start vibecoding with Windsurf or Bolt + ask the ai copilot to use python and explain the code in simple terms. You don't need to learn to code anymore in order to do what you say you want to do. It's cool if you want to, but not needed.

JavaScript and Solidity are great choices. It takes over a year to become proficient, but it's worth it. Start strong!
