Apparently, Unreal Engine is starting to be used pretty widely in movie production as well. I think the investment might have even more to do with that and would be huge for Disney. I bet Epic will be bought by Disney in the next 5 years. Whenever Tim Sweeney is ready to retire. Probably will be the most robust "metaverse" around then too.

Agree, I think there’s some really interesting potential in the crossover between the increased use of virtual sets (via unreal engine) in movies/tv and immersive online. (Even more interesting when counting in what all the Disney NFT patent applications point to)

Pessimist take is that Disney only announced this to pump their stock, since nothing tangible is coming out of this deal for at least another 5 years. Optimist take is that Disney will invest in a Ready Player One type metaverse and Vision Pro will be affordable for all by then. VR Fortnite, hell yeah!
