yea the payment rail problems alone *should* have been a great impetus, but imo VC fund mandates are one of the biggest blockers to innovation here

Not gonna lie, I know a lot of SWs who would benefit from crypto.  Whoever makes the web3 OF is going to make SO much money.  But also, the regulatory headaches of that industry... oof... paired with the regulatory threats to crypto?  I can see why no one's done it so far.

While I agree that “X but make it crypto” is generally a bad thesis but tons of idiosyncrasies in adult content for creators

- unexpected chargebacks 
- “high risk” payment category = fees
- platforms take extra advantage 

all absolutely crush creator margins so it’s not obvious it’s a terrible play imo

The problem with this thesis is that if OF is successful then why would anyone want a competitor that is more difficult to use? Crypto thrives when it’s doing something that you can’t already do with fiat. A crypto OF would just be niche.

So it’s not as straightforward as max 4% 

chargebacks (like when a spouse discovers a porn payment and the person goes oh that wasn’t me and reverts the CC payment) still incur fees paid by the creator/site and this happens a lot with porn

plus failed payments occur at a higher rate both on the customer AND processor level (they have automated AML measures that stop suspicious txns but the criteria opaque to end users). It’s so bad typically adult sites will often implement some sort of payment processor waterfall in case they need to try again with a diff method. 

This all drives up the blended cost 

also 4% on OF revenue is an extra 40 mil 🤷‍♂️

Thinking about the economics of this

Payment fees are no more than 4%

Crypto is 0% basically, but all the other costs in the business are still there

Crypto doesn’t reduce the cost that much; why would someone compete just to do 4% better?

centralized platforms like onlyfans can’t compete long-term. they take a big cut, control what creators can post, and change the rules whenever they want. Their game is over sooner than later 👋

onlyfans - creators earn by charging for exclusive content (often adult). fans pay monthly or per post, and can tip or pay for private messages.
on farcaster - using the moxie protocol (4 example) - creators drop fan tokens, fans buy tokens to unlock content, tip, or pay for chats. creators keep control of earnings with no middlemen.

I don't see how crypto would give you any advantage here, you'd still be responsible for moderation and compliance.
