The moment your kid turns three months old, put them in school πŸ‘ When they're in school, you work. When they're home and awake, you don't.

Personally, I do late nights. Knock out easy tasks during the day. Pause at 4-4:30 for family time until kids are down. Deep work 8pm-12am

My best focus hours are when they are asleep. Now they’re a bit older, I also have a small whiteboard that shows when I’ll take breaks and come out of my room, which clarifies expectations (e.g the β€œDad look at this!”things)

I do a bit of office work in the wintertime, and generally have a couple of rhythms which work for me. Prearranged evening where I can block out a big chunk of time for office work and my wife does post dinner clean up and bed times etc. a 6PM-11PM block can get a lot accomplished (we eat dinner on the early side), allows more time intensive projects beyond the more consistent 9-11 PM shift. Try to keep a morning a week which has a similar block - don’t schedule meetings etc. and the same day of the week. Works well unless we get a snow day. My blessing is my office deadlines are typically measured in weeks, so I can make pushed one week and be more relaxed. Also door closed, headphones on can be helpful for me as well.

For me it helped a ton to be flexible and not try to work during the early AM or early evening hours that were total chaos. Half the battle was just realizing how much I could get done while they’re sleeping or at school.

Over the ear headphones with noise cancellation. I work everywhere, and my best work at home or away from the house is when I have my headphones on and I'm locked in. The wake up super early approach sounds intriguing, but I also work at night so if need be I can sacrifice a bit more sleep to get something done.

I find my time between 3-7 am to be the best for productivity with no distractions. Blessed with a small room with a door that is 100 my space (plus boardgame storage).

depends if your on half duty or if a partner is covering etc. I try to work on micro sprints. I also have fidgets (wooden egg) to ground my thinking etc. if I'm coding I wrote out a to-do list in comments so if I lose track I can come right back. etc. I close all distractions like social media etc. I listen to music or put on a youtube video to ignore (helps my ADHD somehow.)

We set some specific boundaries. My kids do a great job of knowing when the door is closed, not to bother me. Took a lot of trial and error, and kind co-workers
