Interesting since inflation is <3%. What I think most people mean is ‘prices’ - and those are notoriously sticky.

That's YoY. Remember post 2020 i'd say prices are on avg 25-30% higher on most things. And many would argue prices for services, insurance, rents in certain areas, food at restaurants are up 40-50% since 2020. This has been noted/questioned at Fed meetings and numerous Fed chairs

Sentiment matters a lot. Current metrics do not fully capture the “real economy”, especially the impact of interest rates. This might explain why: https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2024/03/23/summers-inflation-reached-18-in-2022-using-the-governments-previous-formula/?sh=87e56cf20929

Just because PCE is 3% doesn’t mean prices are actually 3%, given how much got removed from that measure!! I think people Are thinking about price Rises though & past 12m have been full of rises. Will take a few months for people to clock that prices aren’t rising so much any more ofc the price level also matters

Very accurate. And the fact wages have only really grown is certain regions and sectors. Got relatives in a small city, none - HS educated or college educated saw a wage increase. Medical field, nothing. Big city corpo crony big ole raise. Middling city service profession, big ole raise. 100 $degen

Crazy when consumers must point that sticky poop covered finger back at themselves too… higher wages mean somethings gotta give. I did a quick breakdown on the cost of avocado on toast and yeah them shits shouldn’t be $20.

Interesting that Inflation and Unemployment are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I would have expected those to be closer together and would have expected Terrorism to be much lower on the chart given how much attention we give it and the lack of a recent event. Love to see these charted over time.

I guess when we double our debt from 10 to 20 trillion in 8 years, then add another 13 trillion in another 8 years, Americans will complain about prices as the $ becomes worthless. Problem is it will only get worse.
