What's so great about negative splits other than testing your limit? Last year I ran my 1st HM with a negative split. I enjoyed it, didn't push too far. I'm running another one next month, have trained much better and looking to take 10+ min off my prior time. Running negative splits on a much faster pace looks scary.

Sequoia offering LPs to cash out ~14 year-old positions in Stripe at $70B valuation by directly purchasing their shares. Very few firms can do crossover investing successfully. Clever move that generates DPI for older vintages but risky for LPs in Sequoia Global Equities Fund if Stripe continues to delay IPO or if market turns. https://www.axios.com/2024/07/15/sequoia-capital-stripe

Cool post from Tunguz about first vs. last-mover advantage in AI. He references Google capitalizing last-mover advantage in search by benefitting from all learnings that came before. Maybe NVIDIA is the best example of the former, as the compounding learning curve just makes it so hard for competitors to catch up. Still unclear how AI foundational models will play out. https://tomtunguz.com/where-are-we-in-ai/

I have a HM in 6 weeks, shooting for a 4:40/km race pace. Not there yet. Today it was 10km easy and then a gradual ladder towards 21km. Race pace seems distant still but glad recent injuries are not bothering at all

DIdn't know Quiver Quant tracked congressmen portfolios this closely, love it. Nancy Pelosi has traded $130M in last 10 years. 700% return. 🤣 🤣 https://www.quiverquant.com/congresstrading/politician/Nancy%20Pelosi-P000197

Finally convinced myself not to get the Pegasus. Opted for the Rebel V4s. Just got them. Love how light and jumpy they feel. Haven't taken them for a run but the foam midsole feels amazing. Not sure how useful for forefoot stride but can't wait to try them out.

https://x.com/PWB123123/status/1810427653033513018 Didn't know Paul Graham had called out @balajis.eth's criticism about the Democrats' primary as dangerous bullshit. Can't understand PG's cynicism given how thoughtful he is about so many other topics.

Our 5 month-old daughter starts daycare next Monday. It's a great place very closeby. Still, the idea of leaving her for the first time is scary AF. 😬

Ran 18k during the week as part of my HM training. Has supposed to run 9km easy, 9km race pace. I got a water bottle belt given the extreme heat in California. I ended up getting too distracted and uncomfortable running with that thing. Got nowhere near my race pace. Lesson learned.

I think Turkey will surprise Netherlands. Netherlands looked much stronger vs. Romania than during group stage but I'm still unconvinced Koeman will guide them much further

I'm looking to replace my daily trainers. Pegasus 41 vs. NB FuelCell Rebel v4. Thoughts? Also, will be replacing my ON Cloudmonsters for long runs. Was going to go for Nike Invincibles 3 but I'm discouraged by all the negative reviews. Are Invincibles really that clunky?

I'm picking up my running load again (~40km/week) and starting to feel tight hamstrings, calfs and hips. I last got an injury because of excessive load while being too tight. I used to have a massage once every 3-4 weeks. Curious to hear other folks' experience with massages. How critical are they for your training program? Ideal frequency? Type of massage?

Just learned I got Covid and apparently my 4-month old daughter as well. She's barely showing symptoms other than coughing very sporadically. Doctor provided peace of mind. I know this things happen but hard to avoid anxiety creeping in as a first-time dad

Just started the Genesis Book on Bitcoin. Love how it starts. Didn't know the full story on e-gold in the early 00s, fascinating. https://www.wired.com/2009/06/e-gold/

How much of a difference (injury prevention, performance) does it make to have different shoes for a training program? (e.g. Nike Invincible for long runs, Pegasus for Intervals/Speed, Vaporfly for race day) Is it an overkill?

Used Limitless chip this weekend for F1 Fantasy. Picked Max, both Ferraris, 2x Leclerc and both McL. Bloodbath. I have a F1 league vs. my wife and I may not recover after this weekend 😆

Noah's Econ 102 talk on non-US issues misses the mark. His Mexico analysis contradicts what just happened. AMLO did not lose the elections because of leader fatigue. There are no re-elections in Mexico. His party won by a landslide across states, congress and senate. I dislike AMLO but what Noah said is dead wrong
