Can Farcaster, the protocol not the current app, handle video? Related: What's keeping someone from building a Web 3 version of TikTok?

The hardest part is the algo. TikTok gets so much info on everything you do. Hard to replicate that in a decentralized system.

1) I think technically yes via embeds, but not sure if clients would support it at this time. @v can confirm? 2) Nothing: check out CanCan (an attempt at a 1:1 from a year ago or so?). Also of relevance in the decentralized video space would be LivePeer and Huddle01

Yeah it should be doable for any content type. FC happens to be optimized for the Twitter-like use case but a similar protocol could be design to support different verbs (like, repost, etc.) and nouns (text, photos, video, etc.).

yes - images in the client are uploaded via imgur so there’s no fundamental reason why videos or gifs arent possible. You could link a video in your cast and a fc client could choose to embed the video inline

Challenge is probably not the protocol. Its bootstrapping with the right people who create fun and interesting content and not just for tokenomics.

Always the contrarian: I hope to never see anything like that in web3. We need to use web3 to pull people out of the vapidity and hopefully rebuild their desire to have real attention spans not the goldfish levels that are found in the avid users of that platform.

Just came across this… even google is trying to become TikTok. https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/28/23375691/google-search-multisearch-visual-keywords The closer you get to culture creation the more valuable it becomes apparently

We’re building tiktok for investing and finance ! Our thesis is that content is so centric to investing and currently lacking from fintech. Exploring where it make sense for web3. Ideas we’re playing with: consensus-based verification of videos, token based tipping, wallets

Isn’t achieving the right scalable economic model harder than content type?
