Over the past few months we’ve seen the emergence of the decentralised AI agent stack. For simplicity’s sake I’ve broken it down into three core components: apps, middleware and infrastructure. 

A lot of the building activity has been on Farcaster, with projects incl. @askgina.eth @bankr @clanker @aethernet

Love this framework and article from @pmayr, and I think we'll *also* see the emergence of a new top layer: using "surfaceware" apps to access agent apps as human-agent interfaces.

For instance: you'll be able to interface with @clanker on X, on Farcaster, in Native, on clankfun, etc.

The best surfaceware will capture attention and revenue.

Search engines were better encyclopedias.

LLMs are better search engines.

That’s not a bad thing, it’s just not what a lot people think it is (AGI), and it can’t do the things they expect it to do.

LLMs have the Caleb Williams problem.

Expectations are being set too high (by both outsiders and builders) to appreciate what they actually are.

We’ve known that computers are “smarter” than us. Since the 80s. That’s why we use them.
