The real split when you encounter other players in your industry isn't really competitors vs. collaborators: It's people willing to work to grow a very nascent pie vs. fight over the little that exists today.

While crypto is astonishingly international--perhaps the most truly borderless industry there is--there's still this divide between the Asian and Western versions whereby Asian consumers are doing all sorts of wild, interesting stuff at scale...and Westerners are often scrambling for use cases.

How calculus is taught in Europe: how much liqueur fits in this glass? Clearly a superior culture.

Do I have the runs because of the caffeine, the nicotine, the cheap Mexican yesterday, or just the ever-present stress, asks Startup Man to himself without any clear answers.

Yes. American high culture, what little is left, is pure dogshit now. 20 years ago I would have argued that Europeans pay too much attention to (and take too seriously) American pop culture, while ignoring the high literary culture that was the equal of the European: Roth and Vonnegut are pyrotechnic compared to Céline and Gary. Europeans may watch 'Breaking Bad' but they read practically nothing in American literature, journalism, or philosophy. This was an undeserved oversight. Now, sadly, no...there's nobody left worth reading in the US. It's pure, masturbatory woke-slop that speaks to nobody, not even actual Americans. https://x.com/Perez_Writes/status/1804916540300472704

Unfortunately, @erik is being a total slacker, which is exposing the total slackerdom of @dwr and myself around MoZ. We need to hustle up some guests and record new episodes. Who should we have on?

My most cracked crypto take is that if a Singapore/Dubai/Miami-style city-state were founded with citizenship via staking threshold, delegated voting and legislation onchain, real-world assets oracled, professional administration and rule of law but open markets, I'd live there.

If anything like drastic rightward political change comes to the West, it’ll start in Europe not the US. Politics in the US is nothing but a loud, unhinged LARP, the American tourist version of Nietzsche’s Last Man. Also, Americans are too tolerant and disobedient for real fascism. Europeans, however…

Europeans actually get their election results the same day, rather than waiting months on some murky 'counting' process that's rife with fraud and abuse as happens in a developing country.

In French, a 'pie chart' is known as a 'camembert' since the results look like a cheese after you've tranched it. Since camembert is better than pie, this is another clear win for the civilized continent. https://x.com/Eberretta/status/1799873576520028316

California will spend 9 trillion dollars, 20 years, and enormous amounts of drama and still have slower trains than Spain. But sure make fun of siestas and lazy Europeans and so on. Getting lots done in that frantic American workday of yours? How much of it was spent stuck in traffic? Average train speed by country:

Incentivizing the @spindl team by vowing to get a crewcut if they hit a major product release, and shave the ol' noggin bald if they ship an even bigger feature set, and it's looking a bit touch and go right now as to which way it's going to go.
