It's not big because it's an unexpected technical breakthrough It's big because it's fun and lets ppl easily create content and share with friends -- reminds me a lot of Bitmojis which was acquired by Snapchat This is also why the "hello, HR?" meme applies to Google Gemini but not Ghiblification (one is fun)

I meant “technically” is not a big thing.. There have been ai tools around that do the same thing with hundreds of different styles.. This one just went mainstream.. I agre that its fun, but from a creative POV is not a big thing.. you take a picture (or steal an image) and put it through a filter.. with a stolen style too

stories are survival information and the virality of this one IS a breakthrough. it bonds us around something that we can all connect to. without having to think. from my 3 yo daughter to my grandmother. that's a big breakthrough in my book

IMO it’s big because of who the artist is. Guy is like the absolute archetype of the hard working illustrator who developed an iconic style that’s now being taken against his will (not making judgment on AI merit, just that it’s quite pointed who’s style is going viral and it’s history)
