It's big because it's fun and lets ppl easily create content and share with friends -- reminds me a lot of Bitmojis which was acquired by Snapchat

This is also why the "hello, HR?" meme applies to Google Gemini but not Ghiblification (one is fun)

stories are survival information

and the virality of this one IS a breakthrough. it bonds us around something that we can all connect to. without having to think. from my 3 yo daughter to my grandmother. that's a big breakthrough in my book
