It's not big because it's an unexpected technical breakthrough

It's big because it's fun and lets ppl easily create content and share with friends -- reminds me a lot of Bitmojis which was acquired by Snapchat

This is also why the "hello, HR?" meme applies to Google Gemini but not Ghiblification (one is fun)

IMO it’s big because of who the artist is. Guy is like the absolute archetype of the hard working illustrator who developed an iconic style that’s now being taken against his will (not making judgment on AI merit, just that it’s quite pointed who’s style is going viral and it’s history)
