Thoughts on channel membership for /new-york:
– Add current regular casters as members
– Add any residents that I've personally met
– Allow members to nominate new members
– Offer "guest passes" for folks who are visiting
– Members must set their WC location to NYC

Excited about this evolution of channels!

– Would love to easily be able to see a list of channel members in Warpcast, especially highlighting fellow members that I don't follow yet (opportunity for new friends)

– Would love for existing members to be able to nominate new members (still an inbox for mods but should be much more focused and manageable) + tracking nominations for social accountability and context

– Would love to be able to invite net-new Farcaster users directly to my channel as a member via a streamlined onboarding flow

– Sad that the narrowcasting changes didn't make the cut, would rather get to the end of my feed each day in a healthy way that endless scroll (but understand that that's opposed to business interests)

– Still would love for some way to not see casts that are in channels I don't follow (whether from someone I'm following or not), one of my biggest annoyances with the current feed (and muting = whack-a-mole)

Would love for nominations to be productized, I think for now they can be done publicly in the channel by existing members (optionally quoting a relevant cast, although that's probably more suited for interest-based channels), allows me to get a sense of others' feelings on it as well

Guest passes will likely be via DC for now, I'll start with that and see how it goes, could see guest passes (or "trials") applying to other channels as well

Makes sense, just curious about logistics. For example will people just DC you about nominations / guest passes?

I know there’s no plan to have a “request invite” feature but feels like that creates even more work for the channel owners to have their own inbound process

Not a fan (no pun intended) of the fan token approach since it allows people to buy vs. earn their way in as a member, pretty low-signal from what I've seen so far

Everything seems like a good option, perhaps also consider fan tokens? Doesn't need to be a large amount!

I think I’d probably just start with having folks DC me and then move to a frame or more robust solution as needed

Love the idea of guest passes to keep it inclusive of those passing through - I could see that hard to manage approvals for.  Have any thought on how you'd vet those guests without a "request to join" function? Perhaps a frame of some sort?

As someone who follows /new-york but doesn't post much, I think that approach makes sense. It feels like the local Facebook group approach to moderation where you must show intent to join and provide some form of proof of residency. With that said, it's definitely not a catch all. Feels low risk enough and worth the experiment! Biggest thing would be to make sure it's crystal clear in the description how users can join.

Something that accounts for folks that moved away from the city but still want a connection to it would also be a nice consideration
