Who are your heroes? Who do you look to for guidance on how to be a virtuous person? (non-family/friends) 500 degen tip for up to 10 answers @bountybot - can you make this into a bounty? Context I think it's important to have civilizational heroes — people (historical or present-day) that we look to for examples of virtue and for guidance. But increasingly feel like there's no room for heroes to exist in our modern world. Wondering how others relate to this, and who they look to outside of family/friends.

i think there are difficulties with putting someone high on that pedestal. i'd be surprised if anyone can live up to your perfect embodiment of virtues. that said, i like to pare it down with some filter criteria to help see who's doing well in that domain despite their circumstances. i'm often willing to not negate that standing over some other aspects of their life that feel less virtuous i hold in high regard high functioning billionaires that manage to chase their kingdom and (at least outwardly) not alienate their kids. Mark Zuckerberg and Jesse Itzler come to mind

That is a very good question. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. It is difficult to find heroes and masters nowadays. Most of the ones who tried to fulfill this role are devoured by capitalism. Funny enough, yesterday evening I watched again kung fu panda and in the film there are some masters. I think the beautiful message has to do with believing. If you believe in something and focus, it will work. Last week, I watched a YouTube video by Charles Eisenstein. This guy has nice ideas. His name was a recommendation by @ilannnnnnnnkatin He shares an optimistic view but he is very realistic. I think that's definitely 2 separate questions. I wouldn't say I have heroes. I did as a kid--mostly pro athletes. But as an adult I don't think I could name someone who is a hero. For guidance, I have 4 friends. I've known them all a long time. They are spread around the country but I have a continuous relationship with them and each are the kind of friend that every time you talk or see each other you pick up right where you left off. I can talk to each of them deeply and I highly value their guidance. They each know me well. If more than has concerns about something I'm talking about I pay heightened attention. I think hereos maybe has fallen by the wayside b/c it's too lofty and 'perfect' a vision. We need great friends that we know well and where we can get guidance and/or a model for life.

I like to consider this in the framework of Role Models. For me some are: Mr. Rogers Steve Irwin (the Crocodile Hunter) Bob Ross All men who seemed to have really found their calling, purpose, & then share that out with the world, making the place better for all of us who share it with them

One of my heroes is Didier Drogba. As a football fan and Chelsea supporter , I admire how he rose to the occasion during crucial moments, like his iconic performance in the 2012 Champions League final. Beyond football, his efforts to bring peace to Côte d’Ivoire and his humanitarian work make him an inspiring figure of resilience, leadership, and service to others He really is my GOAT

My hero is my father. He teach me everything from my childhood with love which is rare for everyone specially insider family. But of i look for guidance perspective its will based on religious and cultural aspects - He is prophet Muhammad (peace be upon you). I think each person have different kinds of view on it. So it might not match with other’s.
