If you get far enough in your career and have a few successes and build even a modest network, people will actually pay you to hang out with their team, provide guidance, and just be yourself. It’s wild.

A guy at my weekly basketball game asked me if he could pay the game fee in stablecoins. Obviously yes! Cost him $20 + $0.0033. And FWIW, with Aave I've made more than that ~$0.0033 in interest (4.5% APR on $20) since the game. Maybe I should have paid the fee??

@degen-chad writes great breakdowns. It’s a good example of where a thought-out thesis on something is supported by charts… and not the other way around. We don’t sweat $bracky chart. It’s solely: build product, build experiences, build community. But these takes are educative.

Meanwhile, the builders keep building and all of the big issues are making progress: - EIP-7702 within weeks... big unlock for better UX - PeerDAS bringing a lot more blob space, rollups need this now, they're actually being used https://ethereum-magicians.org/t/all-core-devs-consensus-acdc-150-february-6-2025/22703/3

Open source doesn’t happen in a vacuum and it’s the result of sharing and learning from the work of others. Great memories of the beginning of socket.io and @shazow.eth’s part in the story.

Founders are capable of doing all sorts of jobs now. I cannot tell you how many experienced entrepreneurs I have spoken with who are so excited to try to build new things and not have to deal with "company building" and people management. The idea that you can now go exponentially further than ever before with a team of 10 people or less used to be the stuff of dreams. This sentiment is burrowing itself in the founder's psyche, particularly those building at the application layer, and it's becoming pervasive. That's a very good thing. https://jared.xyz/the-times-they-are-ai-changin

The upcoming version of my 80/20 Cooking course teaches a lot of dishes, but all through the lens of fundamental techniques. As an example: this pasta all'amatriciana that I learned how to make last year in Italy. It's a very simple dish at its core, and in learning how to make it you'll not just add a new pasta dish to your repertoire but also: - learn about proper ratios for pasta water, how to ensure even cooking, and why you don't need to add oil to the water - learn how to properly salt pasta water to season the noodles from the inside out - learn how to cook dried pasta to the perfect al dente point - learn how to take a few simple ingredients and build a super flavorful sauce - learn how to use pasta water to thicken and build a better sauce - learn how to incorporate the cooked pasta into the sauce to finalize the dish Now you've not only mastered pasta all'amatriciana, but you've also built up a set of skills that you can use in thousands of other pasta dishes.
