i really do not respect market maps

i have made the canonical farcaster market map that we will use for the coming decade

a lot of perceived value, none of the actual value

pure self interested marketing, flex or cloutchasing

one of the best ways to appear like you’re doing some important work while sitting on your ass engagement farming

They’re really good for finding out all the companies a fund has invested in or is working closely with a company they’ve invested in 🫢

My favorite is when market maps feature zombie projects that aren't *technically* dead but everyone actually building knows doesn't exist.

market maps belong in the email that you send privately to your LPs, partners or coworkers

once public, its just a clout or a marketing exercise

That’s a bit judgy, no? 

Not everyone is starting with deep domain knowledge and putting one together is a good educational process.

Best part is when a mid VC takes a market map someone else has made, slaps their logo on it, and then shills it on LinkedIn
