Try out 2-3 rackets (you can get demos from a local shop), pick the one you like most, don’t change it for 2 years. 3 good ones to try if you’re new: - Pure Drive 100 - Ezone 100 - Clash 100 String with any kind of synthetic hit string, at around 52 lbs tension. These are all high end rackets but pretty neutral / default settings. Will give you a high ceiling and plenty of room to tune as you go. For shoes just get real tennis shoes, not running shoes.

had a friend start with this recently and it's a pretty widely rec'd setup for adult beginners. you won't likely have to change it for a while if at all yonex ezone 100 > "Favorite Synthetic Guts" > prince synthetic gut 16 strings > strung at 54 lbs would lookup how to measure your grip size but think 4 3/8 is usually it unless you have big/small hands could even grab this used one and pick the strings/tension from above: https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/orderusedproduct.html?pcode=EZO10

Not a super helpful comment, but when my kid was getting started playing tennis at school, the coach said don’t buy anything at a big box sporting good store. Go to a proper tennis shop. Even if it’s the same brand, the quality is different.

I actually really like Federer’s court shoes from On! Have them for clay and hard courts Also happy to give you my beginner racket if you’re in NYC! I’ve been hoping I could find a good home for it since it’s. A good one! I think a 2024 Wilson clash?

I mean at the beginner level go based on your favorite color lol. Wilson cuz Federer used it and he’s the goat. I don’t care what Djokavic does Fed is still my goat

Lifelong tennis player – imo the racket you choose doesn't really matter. The most important thing is to hit a lot of balls with the correct form, which will feel very unnatural at first. I recommend starting with some lessons or at the min watch some youtube videos and shadow swing with the right grip and technique

I think you'll need a tennis racquet and some of those fuzzy green bouncy balls

Money is better invested in a coach or time on court. Just pick up any racket, I don't think it will make a huge difference.
