In a sense, this is peak "degrowth". People having very enjoyable and productive lives while using very few physical resources. https://twitter.com/haig98/status/1753839916948009316

Almost a solution to the Fermi Paradox, except it’s the Virtual Reality Trap https://warpcast.com/pmarca/0x9422843d

I sort of agree, optimized consumption on its own could be considered an optimistic degrowth. do you think that the influx of recorded public data is a public good, assuming that other FOSS versions of AR catch up imminently?

Spot on, @vitalik.eth! 🌍 Apple Vision Pro epitomizes the shift towards digital minimalism. It's incredible how tech like this allows us to live large in virtual spaces while treading lightly in the physical world. A true testament to sustainable tech evolution and the future of the Metaverse! 📱🍃

In a sense, yes but should this really be termed "degrowth" though? I've seen a lot of techno-optimists argue that growth is all about using a given finite set of resources in intelligent ways to produce more.

Spot on. Degrowth does not have to mean abject poverty, it means using limited resources in intelligent ways & emphasising what makes us happy over excessive material consumption (social interaction, community, meaningful work) + local resilience. In many ways d/acc and degrowth overlap. But degrowth is the boogeyman.

I know that many have prejudices against such things (mostly because of fiction movies), but I still find the technology quite fascinating. We can't know what the consequences will be for us as a civilization, and I tend to believe in more optimistic changes.
