Excited to see work on solar geoengineering: https://twitter.com/MazMHussain/status/1775705471078293875 Maybe global-south nations who will be most hit by climate change will start threatening to do this unilaterally; even if other techniques are ultimately better, perhaps they need the push to get to the finish line

"Climate change will make the earth inhospitable for human life" and "but we can't solve it THAT WAY!" are fundamentally incompatible notions. If a patient has a cold, you give them tea and natural remedies. If a patient has cancer, you give them chemotherapy.

I worry when Man plays God with Mother Nature. Too many mistakes have been made because complex systems weren't understood well enough. I think a precautionary principle should be the default for anything attempted at this scale and magnitude.

Imagine rainwater tasting like the ocean But yes, we need to be aggressively helping fund stuff like this. Hope offending nations are willing to fund as public good

Seems like a great way to discover unforeseen side effects from however much salt is needed to actually make an impact on the climate

Could be worth it to use Starship to build a shade swarm of micro satellites at Earth-Sun L1 zone. It would be expensive and difficult but assuming Starship works and there's a good chance it will, it's just a matter of funding and launch priority.

In โ€œThe Ministry for the Futureโ€ (2020), Kim Stanley Robinson foresees a catastrophic heat wave in India in 2025 that kills 20 million, but ultimately becomes a galvanizing moment. India ends up spraying sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere to provide a stable cooling cloud cover for its vulnerable population.
