Excited to see work on solar geoengineering: https://twitter.com/MazMHussain/status/1775705471078293875 Maybe global-south nations who will be most hit by climate change will start threatening to do this unilaterally; even if other techniques are ultimately better, perhaps they need the push to get to the finish line

"Climate change will make the earth inhospitable for human life" and "but we can't solve it THAT WAY!" are fundamentally incompatible notions. If a patient has a cold, you give them tea and natural remedies. If a patient has cancer, you give them chemotherapy.

Imagine rainwater tasting like the ocean But yes, we need to be aggressively helping fund stuff like this. Hope offending nations are willing to fund as public good

have you read neal stephenson's _termination shock_ yet? all about the sulfur-based flavor of stratospheric aerosol injection, and is 100% a stephenson joint. good stuff. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57094295-termination-shock

An interesting company in this space is Make Sunsets. They use stratospheric aerosol injection and hope to give us more time to transition to being carbon neutral. https://makesunsets.com/

I worry when Man plays God with Mother Nature. Too many mistakes have been made because complex systems weren't understood well enough. I think a precautionary principle should be the default for anything attempted at this scale and magnitude.

I'm excited to see Mankind race towards his own oblivion. Pumping salt into the air so we can keep shipping bananas halfway around the globe seems like a great idea...

Seems like a great way to discover unforeseen side effects from however much salt is needed to actually make an impact on the climate

What do you mean by global-south @vitalik.eth? Is climate change worse for the southern hemisphere? Or do you just mean “poor people” without A/C? Either way, don’t fuck with our sunlight you impotent technocrat.

Well now we finally have something we can use to our advantage - even though I highly doubt that the solution will come from anything other than fusion

One thing I've been looking at recently is the ideal CO2 levels for plant growth. The ideal C02 level is considered 600 to 1,000 ppm. And 600 ppm is the current end of 21st century projection for earth. This is an under appreciated benefit to the biosphere.

As human activity continues to strain the environment, tech is indeed crucial for mitigating our impact. Direct air capture also offers a promising approach to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Exploring how blockchain and smart contracts can be integrated into these projects could be a game-changer for planetary health.

https://csl.noaa.gov/news/2023/390_1107.html I have heard more rumblings about Stratospheric Aerosol Injections, but the risks need further investigation. Salt was a new one to me, thank you for sharing.
