I’ve been reading about trauma lately, speaking as a basically low/no-trauma person (afaik) and one of my conclusions is that the majority of the world is low-grade trauma-driven and it manifests as being in war mode by default, peace mode by exception. Guess I’m rather lucky in having the reverse orientation.

When most people go on the warpath they’re merely switching from cold war to hot war mode. They’ve never actually experienced peace or the feeling of consciously deciding to pick a fight and making clear-eyed preparations to fight. They’re “that’s my secret Cap, I’m always angry” like Hulk.

Seeing this as well. It’s almost impossible to go through life without accumulating some trauma. The child-adult relationship almost guarantees it. What’s also interesting is the how and why some people are buried by their trauma and others (like you) aren’t.

I think I found out that the reverse orientation works for me somewhere in my mid 20s, as a result became slightly funnier

I buy it. I’m general a trauma rooted response to something is pretty hard to control, because a fish doesn’t know it is wet. Buttress that with some kind of in-group pride and you’ve got a recipe for conflict-seeking defaults. Takes a lot of effort to just chill. And might not be advantageous.
