we are about two and a half weeks into the client build and the team has learned sooo much. 1. @neynar @privy, @dynamic and NextJS is good enough. 2. mobile/React Native is much harder due to separation of concerns in the backend. 3. you will need a website, anyways. 4. target 99.99% SLO. serverless setups will get you there. 5. do not cache or optimize early. Redis is expensive. 6. you must be feature complete before launching. 7. data is a deep, dark, expensive well. 8. do not follow boilerplates or tutorials. 9. deploy with a monorepo. do not use pnpm or bun. they are too early or have hidden blockers. 10. you will need to run Postgres eventually. 11. i still don’t know how Dockerfile builds works.. 12. frames are fun but will be a sidequest. 13. most of your days are spent waiting for builds to pass. 14. do not use prettier or eslint. use Biome. 15. it’s OK to rapidly push to main. 16. move fast!

I've experienced working at a large traditional company, early stage startup, founding a fund, and founding a startup. Some random thoughts - AIG: work hard and learn a lot but difficult to have autonomy with layers of management, most there to collect paycheck, how you stand out depends on manager - Coinbase (30-150 employees): work hard but first time work didn't feel like work since cared deeply, tons of autonomy, first time working with many mission driven colleagues, can stand out taking initiative, did not have a sense of how hard being a founder was for Brian + Fred - Scalar (founded fund): work harder (no days off in week), decisions fall on founders so huge sense of ownership, lows are really low, first sense of how hard things can really get - Bountycaster (founded company): work harder than founding fund (default is work and then carve out personal time), cycles of highs and lows much more rapid than fund, feel most fulfilled due to ownership, mission, and connecting with users

The UAE deserves more study. It is technocapitalist. And a top location for global investors. It’s truly a nation of immigrants. Less than 15% Emirati, >85% foreign. It’s in hypergrowth. From 75k to ~10M people in 75 years. It’s like a Mars colony. Built a metropolis from nothing. Very impressive place.
