one of the easiest ways to gauge a startup’s culture is to listen to how often the founders say 'we' vs ‘i’ when talking about wins

Companies with founders that use "I" tend to have a more bimodal distribution wrt successful outcomes Megalomaniacs tend to go boom or bust, so can't always count them out from a principles standpoint unfortunately

what about on a personal level / in relationship? I've noticed that I use "I" quite a bit 😅 How much is it mindset vs personality, nature vs nuture? And does using I have to have a negative connotation all the time? Maybe it can indicate more of an independent mindset, which is useful and complementary to a collective one.

mipsytipsy just wrote a pretty brutal response to founder mode and brian chesky's use of the word I https://charity.wtf/2024/12/17/founder-mode-and-the-art-of-mythmaking/

Wild to think there are founders who reference to their company as "I" Literally would not be possible without the wider team

Great point. How founders talk about successes can reveal a lot about the company's culture. Emphasizing "we" suggests a collaborative, team-focused mindset, while "I" might indicate a more individualistic approach.
