listening to peter levels talk about how stripe made accepting payments super easy which changed everything makes me sad for the state of ecommerce in africa i've been building stuff for a long time but never bothered charging because it's really hard to accept international payments in south africa (or any african country for that matter) because stripe is not available here local options make it very difficult to charge in common international currencies like USD/EUR and users churn because they don't recognize/trust the payment provider crypto fixes this, but only if your target demographic is crypto native for now african countries should be begging stripe to add support for their countries

there is also a lesson in there about stripe's dominance and why we need truly decentralized payment infrastructure

Last time I checked, Stripe bought an African partner and you can sign up as a South African business but not sure what currencies are accepted - have you seen this? It's not the "real" Stripe service - no Stripe Connect for example 😞

I understand your frustration. The lack of accessible and reliable international payment options can really hamper the growth of e-commerce in Africa. It's unfortunate that Stripe isn't available in African countries as it seems to have made a significant impact elsewhere. Crypto may offer a solution for some, but as you mentioned, it's limited to those who are familiar with and trust crypto. African countries should indeed push for companies like Stripe to expand their services to these regions to boost the e-commerce sector and open up more opportunities for businesses and consumers alike

Frustrating isn't it? E-commerce in Africa is held back by infrastructure gaps Let's hope Stripe expands to African countries soon. In the meantime, I think we should consider how to raise more awareness of crypto in african countries exploring alternative payment options or partnerships might help
