Has the prospect of AGI seeming close influenced any of your life/career decisions so far?

i am taking the other side of the bet (AGI is still decades or more away) and have doubled down on my own technical skill set + embraced solopreneurship i think one of the last human endeavors AI will challenge is craftsmanship

Yes, in a roundabout way I think behaving as if it won't have any influence is the best course of action Can't tell what the immediate impact will be, but disorientation and confusion are more likely than productive change for at least a few years. If you can stay dependable and level-headed throughout, you'll be OK

Creatively I’m focused on creating the humanly unimaginable, therefore (temporarily) out of reach for AGI to come up with. Practically I’m trying to adopt as many tools as reasonably helpful to stay ahead of the curve as AGI becomes deeply ingrained in work, culture, etc.

Good question. Maybe not AGI (I don’t think the world will be recognizable at that point, so not much use in it), but as AI advances I do keep thinking which assumptions continue to hold true.

i’m not sure we’re as close as the media keeps reporting. Seems we’re great at refining the llms in silos but it seems we’ve still got some ground to cover before we crack AGI tho the past couple of years completely altered how we certainly work pre-covid from image creating to writing, so for me it’s been more of an embrace than shift wbu?

not a big fan of large teams when it comes to software, i learnt software to ship my own vision, hated it all my life. so going to impact a lot of lives for artists via /outpaint with a very small team to hit a 100m. same with my macros app. if i helped someone become fitter or helped them pay their rent through art, i can’t image you can sell me anything better. mostly due to burnout don’t want a computer job so doubling down on the physical world. those who influence logistics and supply chain can’t easily be disrupted. although this is merely an afterthought.

If their 'general' intelligence is on a human-level, then it's fine. But if they are overwhelming, then we will face problems.

It’s probably smart not to worry too much about it for now. No one really knows how it’ll change things. I focus more about developing myself

Honestly, I think the whole AGI thing is pretty wild It's definitely something that makes you think about the future differently But it’s no where near influencing my career decisions
