I got into a conversation with my friends. I said the "professional managerial class" will not exist in 20 years. They said I underestimate how long it takes for systems to change. What are we thinking chat

Such an important question, and really hard to model. However, what feels super easy to say right now: If you are serious about succeeding in business over the next few decades there is NOTHING you should be doing other than making AI-based products. And that's especially true of spending $200K on an MBA.

There’s a lot of millennials that are currently being indoctrinated, I feel like the change has to come from the people in those roles now. The professional managerial class is a decently paid and comfy position to be in. Idk if I see it going away any time soon.

I think you’re probably right in most cases. Systems do take forever to change. But profit motivates that change quickly.

Read a book called “bullshit jobs” which convinced me it will always exist. One takeaway was that culturally people find it “moral” to work, and will find jobs to do irrespective of how much value it provides.

was their argument that it'll just take longer or that it'll never go away kinda think it sticks around as long as the concept of corporate structure remains relatively similar to what it is today, but in a distilled form

I think it will remain, but at perhaps 5% the volume it previously existed at. I think there will be a lot of cuts in favour of Ai agentic operators, but that shareholders and boards will still want a few human managers to vet decisions I also think we’ll see a huge decline in low level employees, which could lead to a mid level vacuum fairly quickly

well it's one of those things that you either go after it in a blitz or it'll always be there i.e. not a gradual change if gradual then wont even be changed

think DOGE but for middle management. property prices falling might be the only real-world effect other than these people getting real jobs. much easier to cut the slack in an office than it is in a physical job 5 years max
