I feel like video game music is grossly overlooked. Even the genre as a name does a disservice to the many styles it can take form in. This faithful deconstruction of Quartz Quatrant G Mix speaks to the creativity needed to make something atmospheric yet joyful under tight computing constraints. youtu.be/BT0kxFdL9XQ

Hardest agree ever. To add your point about the name doing it a disservice, it's really the only "part" of a game that can exist on its own. It requires no connection to the game to be enjoyed, and yet it adds so damn much to the game.

This track is pretty well known in the hip-hop world. But I was introduced to it by the final level in one of the Splinter Cell games. Thanks for reminding me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFXtwNLR2xE

Dropping a recommendation for "Level with Emily Reese", who brings on all sorts of videogame music composers to discuss their work. https://www.levelwithemily.com/

A few years ago, I learned about this phenomenon and went pretty hard on video game music when working. Now, i occasionally enjoy a round of chiptunes, esp Snail’s House. https://www.g2a.com/news/features/video-game-soundtracks-that-help-in-studying/

Assassin's Creed series has some great scores by Sarah Schachner, Brian Tyler, Lorne Balf, and Jasper Kyd. Austin Wintory's work on "Journey" is amazing. Bear McCreary did amazing work on God of War. Videogame music has, much like film scores, greatly matured.
