Physical music is on the rise🎶 The new statistics from the Official Charts Company and BPI detail a 3.2% increase in physical music sales in the first half of 2024, with 8,044,760 units sold in the UK. This marks the first time figures have risen since the streaming boom that began in 2004. For me, while streaming offers convenience and variety, there's something uniquely satisfying about owning a physical copy of your favorite album. It's yours forever, regardless of content changes on streaming services. Physical and digital formats can coexist harmoniously, and even work together, enhancing our entertainment experience. This is the future, both formats becoming one. Collectors and enthusiasts cherish the tangible connection to their media, while digital platforms provide access on-the-go. The future of music consumption can be bright, embracing both nostalgia and innovation. Let’s celebrate the best of both worlds! 🌟

Recent report from Spotify showing the number of artists and how much they make from the platform. When you think about it, still generally low numbers for at least 50k for example, considering the amount of working artists out there. And then you have to consider the take home, especially if you're a band with, let's say, 5 members. That would be 10k each then you have to take into account, expenses, splits, tax, etc. Thoughts?

Eminem has brought back the concept album with his latest record, 'The Death of Slim Shady'. Are concept albums a dying breed? Streaming services have changed the way many listen to music. Lots of people don't listen to actual albums in the order they were supposed to be anymore...or albums at all. What are your thoughts?

What song lives rent-free in your head... and is it because Spotify is 'gaming' the algorithm to make it so? 😲 Comedian and podcaster Steven Phillips-Horst recently came across something while using the platform... he couldn't get away from Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso'. No matter what song he played, the platform would immediately queue up the track next. Steven put his conspiracy theory hat on and posted the theory that the platform has arrangements with record labels to boost streams for particular songs. It went viral with people jumping in and saying it had been happening to them. Now just to be clear, there's no evidence this is happening and I'm not saying it is (I don't want any lawsuits 😆). BUT...it would be very hard to prove that it's happening as deals between streaming platforms and labels are confidential. Do we need more clarity and openness in music streaming? What are your thoughts? Is there a song that keeps cropping up for you on Spotify and you don't know why?

Artists are appearing to have 'had enough'. Two articles have come out recently, one from Matt Healy of the 1975 condemning the industry as a 'money pit' and one from Bebe Rexha saying she has been 'punished' by the industry.
