I use a 100% coco-soy blend in my products, which makes it good for the environment but it causes frosting. I can add paraffin wax to prevent frosting, but paraffin is essentially plastic. Should I have a candle that is pretty but bad for the environment, or ugly and good for the environment?

Frosting is something that happens in natural waxes due to unstable heating or cooling, as it’s very temperamental. These are crystal structures that form just cuz - they don’t affect the performance of the candle. But customers who I sell to probably won’t know that. So I’m not sure.

frosting cute, environment good. for me, smell and burn are more important than aesthetics as I'm not one to stare at a candle for more than a glance here and there.

When I was told about petroleum in candles and put two and two together, I entirely stopped buying/burning them (and usually go soy). I wonder if there’s some way to turn the frosting into a brand element, or control how it forms uniquely.

Call them frosted wax candles = get ahead of it and make it a feature not a bug.

Imperfection can be part of the design. If it is thought out and intentional, is it bad design? (I think not). Also, beauty is relative and the impact on the environment isn’t 😉

Another take, maybe there is a way to make this perceived ‘imperfection’ a strong point of you product. Maybe there is a way to turn the table

It’s interesting take. As a consumer, once I understand why this product looks different I can make a conscious choice. In this case, knowing the why’s, I am more likely to buy your candle.

imperfectly perfect is the way to go IMO! It only affects the aesthetic and I'd rather support the environment.
