More recent than 80s scifi that I've really enjoyed Dennis E. Taylor Orson Scott Card John Scalzi Daniel Suarez Ernest Cline Andy Weir Note there's a huge gap between "scifi written in 40s-80s" and "writers creating their best work now"

N. K. Jemisin won 3 consecutive Hugo Awards for the Broken Earth series, unprecedented. The first book was in 2015.
