i have always downloaded my entire spotify library on both my iphone and mac

every time I like a song, it gets downloaded; started doing this back in college when unlimited data plans weren't the norm

now worth the storage expense since it allows me to play music i like for focused work in the most remote spots / airplanes

haha I agree though unfortunately downloading spotify library doesn't really result in owning media. offline downloads sync for 30 days at a time if no internet connection in between 

so I am solving a connectivity problem more than an ownership problem, would be cool to also solve the ownership problem but can't argue against the convenience of streaming

New gen doesn’t appreciate the value of owning your media. Streaming be damned. Connections fail, storage is cheap. This is the way. 👊😁

challenge for the audio industry (compared to video) is that all audio streaming platforms have pretty much ALL music while video platforms are quite fragmented in their catalogs 

meaning if I want to watch something that requires me to video streaming platform X, I might download on iTunes instead of opening up another subscription (I do this all the time fwiw) 

but for music, there is no such incentive to download music like people used to do on iTunes pre Spotify

My Spotify downloads probably take most of the space on my phone. Can’t believe I used to carry multiple cds in the past, now we have thousands of songs a click away

10k songs in playlist and unlimited likes - so hasn't been a real problem

(they used to have 10k likes total but they got rid of that fully and is now unlimited)

Doesn’t Spotify have weird limits on playlist size / number of likes? I swear it feels like they are doing a FILO queue or something

so first listen is always on a stream and I might listen to stuff often but never download

airplane wifi cuts out from time to time and breaks focus, also road trips in remote areas (not that uncommon for me)

Oooh I only do this when on the go. There is 5G everywhere these days so I don’t really feel the need to do so. It clutters my storage :)

thought i was the only one doing this lol, this is also why i can’t switch to apple music ever.

i once lost my premium plan and thought i would lose all the songs but they were still downloaded on both my mac and iPhone immediately i got the premium plan

Why using Spotify then?
Isn’t it easier (and cheaper!) to purchase the tracks and keeping them on the phone?

cant bring myself to carry more devices when traveling, would rather pay for more storage on existing devices

I should do this. Hate when I don’t have service and that in turn doesn’t allow me to play music. 
I actually thought Spotify removed the offline feature. I can’t seem to find it

I have something similar for youtube premium. Always saves my life when I need my son to watch something on airplane and I forgot to download lol

My son started doing this a few years ago. Now at almost 18 he has a heap of music available anywhere. The rest of us are hopelessness and often have to rely on his playlists. Just as well he has great taste in music 😁
