Does diversity matter for network states? Intuitively to me it does, since living with only men doesn’t sound like it would work well. I feel like ignoring this is a deficiency of the framework, what do you think? Cc @balajis.eth

even vibecamp, which has been running for two years now is only now beginning to imo properly address attendee safety ‘the model’ is not prescriptive in this regard, some network states will be safe places for the marginalized and some won’t be, and ppl will be free to choose just as they do now

what was not addressed at the event was whether these parallel systems are going to recreate patriarchal power structures, and tbh I would have liked to have seen more content on governance, dispute resolution etc vs what seemed like barely disguised slick presentations for lavish real estate

focusing on the attendees isn’t the move (tbqh this picture is doing the rounds and isn’t fair to the event as demographics were as others have stated ie not this picture) part of the network state model focuses on sidestepping the perceived woke capture of institutions, explicitly mentioned in the 1517 talk

there were actually quite a lot of woman, families with kids, different age groups. The photo was taken after the end of the conference with a vibe “come for 1 minute chat”. Comparing with “crypto” conferences/meetups I’d say it was more diverse than usual

It should matter across all dimensions not just gender. but realistically these events cannot solve for historical and ongoing foundational issues. It would be nice though if there was an intent/goal baked into something like network states to involve the broadest possible range of voices especially at this stage.

I would prefer if Network States were decoupled from living. So you can be part (a citizen) of a network state but your spouse/partner doesn't have to be. Except for explicitly co-living network states. I do agree that diversity is an issue that needs to be addressed, as it is in most things related to tech.

Rome started with all men. They “acquired” women quite violently. Real answer: Free markets are great, because we will find out! Gender absolutely matters for reproduction, though you could get citizenship upon marriage through spouse.

I dont think diversity matters at all. As long as no one is actively excluded. We are good. Getting network state off the ground is going to be uphill battle as is. There is no need to get bogged down with woke non sense. Every single western state is obsessed with diversity, so there are plenty of places for that

Look at this priest, already demanding tributes. The concept of Network States only exists to escape from this priestly class idea of diversity.

Absolutely. It’s like Bitcoin a decade ago. Might be controversial, but we need a Doodles-like component to the Network State to become more inclusive.
