if you're an engineer applying for a gig and your github looks like this for the past 3 years you're ngmi

my gh activity to public repos is empty. my gh activity to private repos has been empty until recently. 🤷

if your company hires based on heat maps you're ngmi speaks to tech's lack of diversity tbh

I spend M-F committing to my company's internal repos. If someone wouldn't hire me because I choose to do something outside of my job that's different from the thing I do at my job, they're evaluating the wrong metric.

Like all good hot takes, this is generally correct and specifically wrong. Of course you'd talk to the staff level eng who worked 60 hrs/week just not in GH repos. But the point is if you're an engineer looking to continue doing engineering, you should be used to doing a lot of it consistently.

if a job solely looked at my public contributions on github only. That tells me everything I need to know to pass.

sort of agree. private/enterprise repos, quality of code, or life circumstances would be important points to clarify. but actually… this looks like a VCs work calendar.
