I wouldn't put it this strongly, but I do think there's something to say about the culture that could have been but that got outcrowded and/or turned off by it.

Iā€˜d differ between - the ā€žnormal degen cultureā€œ aka increased (early Stage) liquid market activity during good times that can bootstrap economies & enable new lighthouse projects; - and the ā€žembraced 0/negative sum degen cultureā€œ to draw purely short-term financial gains which may in fact also lead to long-term ecosystem wins because activity begets more activity (despite also drowning genuine, not hyperfinancialized, slow growth project builders in the ecosystem)

What you mean convincing noninvestment-educated folks to not sell their 100x DEGEN been it's going to $1 was a bad idea?

the culture evolved though. from pure gambling to data-driven analysis. still messy, but we're seeing more emphasis on fundamentals and sustainable yields. progress?

+1, ā€ždegen cultureā€œ is an oxymoron to me, itā€™s the absence of culture. Degen is to embrace lower urges of humans, like greed and envy. Degen games arenā€™t zero sum, as you become a slave to your lower urges and are literally losing it. In the long run, everyoneā€™s better off with positive sum games.
