i use a duffel, so i have no recs but I'll just say I don't like the hard shell trend lately that means you can't easily access anything in the bag. defeats the purpose of a carry-on for me

agreed!! i find the clam shells more difficult to pack anyway. I'd rather just have one big space so i don't overpacks two sides and have double the squeezing effort required lol

I was thinking I'd look cool and get a lite hard shell until I learned last night about the half clam shell opening making it hard to open the top half in tight spaces. Function > aesthetic.

I don't understand why it's not possible to have a hard shell with a thin depth lid. Seems like we 100% have the technology.
