I've been noticing a trend with Wirecutter that if I use their posts as a starting point and spend a few hours after researching I'm able to find products far more optimized for what I'm looking for.

My wheels have been somewhat shot for years with the Swissgear. I would pursue the warranty however the side handle design drives me crazy. By having the handle perpendicular to the body it makes the grip so that you're carrying the bag with your bicep.

got the samsonite endure 2-piece set at /costco a couple years ago and i'm still pretty happy with it for longer trips where i'll need more space

was also using a swissgear set before that, and while they bags looked nice, i recall not liking that they didn't swivel and could be too bulky due to the compartments

i use a duffel, so i have no recs but I'll just say I don't like the hard shell trend lately that means you can't easily access anything in the bag. defeats the purpose of a carry-on for me

This is my fav one. Not sure the weight in lbs but it’s got 3kg, which is around 6lbs. 

It’s light, resistance, has warranty.
