Are there any ideologically driven people involved in Solana? My impression is it’s pure mercenary: decentralization and open source are not taken seriously.

Decentralisation: So far, the Solana ledger is resistant to censorship and tampering from adversaries. OS: The Solana protocol evidently embraces an Open Source methodology, resulting in at least two different implementations. yes, I'm pretty ideologically driven at least — accelerating the adoption of decentralized, performant computing is the only thing I care about decentralization is taken very seriously — open-source on the other hand definitely needs work

Ideological, absolutely. But it’s a very different ideology, with a history of being focused on improving efficiency and access to financial markets, specifically through hardware acceleration. Quite different to say OG Bitcoin cypherpunk ideals or Etherean techno-optimism around social coordination.

I've not come across any, but perhaps they're just quietly building and the noise is too high for them to be noticed. Unless you consider "onboarding the masses" an ideology.
