Worked with @btayengco and @lobstermindset.eth today in NY Feeling grateful and confident in our team. Big moment, and somehow feels like just a start. We’ll celebrate when an eco project gets the nod Don’t build it the way you think the market wants you to, ship it the way YOU want to and move the market. Thanks for showing us the way @jessepollak

my take - Channels don’t need MM/Warpcast to grow. The legos to drive 10x growth/engagement within a channel are already there: - signups are permissionless, invite flow is getting better - frames already allow you to build channel apps and experiences - many channel moderation tools are available - use things like @curabot to curate algo feeds, channel leaderboards, distribute rewards. You can use frames for creating better form factors for your community, don’t need to rely on Warpcast feed/algo. - launch tokens for channel members, reward fairly. The challenge for channels is not lack of tools or decentralized creation/ownership. A few motivated channel entrepreneurs will show how to drive growth in channels using frames, tokens, onchain transactions, curated feeds and bots. And then everyone will follow fast. agree with @dwr.eth on this “We need 100-1000x more posts in channels before you can consider channels to be something like reddit.”

Really, all of cypherpunk / free software / ... is just trying to preserve boundaries that were unquestioned in the year 1900. * Your device serves you, not some gov or corp overlord * You can repair and modify your device to better serve you * Your private conversations are private * Your private money is private

Maybe not traditional “influencer”, but plenty of economic value has been created for people who have taken Farcaster seriously over the last few years. Beyond the onchain opportunities, plenty of people got jobs and raised funding as a result. ymmv

great reading to start your new year new ideas, presented and written well first, a provocation as it were: "What if Subscription Isn't the Right Business Model for the Internet?" which makes the assertion: "the Internet needs new business models" https://getlightswitch.substack.com/p/what-if-subscription-isnt-the-right

Apparently now we're getting Generation Beta? And then presumably in 2039 Generation Chad? This whole scheme is dumb, we should just refer to age cohorts by their decade of birth like in China.

One meta belief I have, is that I think "on the face pursuing idealistic objective A, but actually being tilted toward selfish objective B" is better than "openly pursuing objective B". Many seem to believe the opposite, typically saying something like "at least the latter is honest". I feel like what this misses, is that maintaining the face of pursuing idealistic objective A, and using A to coordinate a large coalition, is a pretty big speed bump against attempts to pursue B too brazenly. When "the mask comes off", things actually become much worse, and strategies that pursue B at high costs to other values (including A, and also often general human decency) become unlocked. Are there any good arguments against this intuition I have? (Whether generalized, or about specific situations)
