This is when things start to change in Web3. Our biggest problem is we keep refilling the top of the funnel vs keeping relationships with everyone who’s interacted with our products. Retention is growth. Every single growth leader in web2 knows this, baffles me web3 hasn’t obsessed over this yet. And now it’s possible.

Let's build. Life's too short to build on top of closed-sourced apps. Building on closed-source apps is like playing a game without knowing the rules. I spent the past 15 years of my career building on top of the Big Tech platforms. This actually means I spent the last 15 years of my career getting the rules changed, promises broken, and ultimately getting my businesses killed or forced to sell because I built on top of these centralized platforms. If I was a developer, it would literally be the first question I'd ask myself. Is the app open-sourced too?

Big day here... Ephemera has acquired @converseapp, and as of 9 am EST, we open-sourced it. Converse is the simplest and fastest app built on XMTP. The Converse team has been building with XMTP since day one, and with the ability to reach over 2m+ identities on XMTP, we are excited to put more resources into building a better future together. We need to make using crypto as easy as sending a message. We have already started implementing secure groups into Converse and we have so much more work to do so everyone in the world has a secure messaging application that is native to crypto. Everything starts with trust. The world needs an open, secure, and decentralized communication platform. One that everyone can trust to build on and use. That’s why we are open-sourcing the application layer, which is also built on the open & secure XMTP network.

With today’s upgrade to the XMTP protocol, we are bringing the most advanced privacy and security in the world to an entire messaging network and economy. The most secure and private groups now in production. Privacy extends beyond just whether or not your messages are encrypted. Does the network reveal who you are DMing? What groups you are a part of? When are you sending messages? Does it protect your existing messages if a device gets compromised? Can you send messages securely after an old device gets compromised? Those are the hard things in messaging, and that’s where we have been investing our time to build a communication protocol that can ensure that privacy is a human right for everyone on the planet. The new @converseapp is really starting to feel like Telegram & WhatsApp Except it’s onchain. Not tied to my phone number. Not owned by one guy. Inbox is protected by consent. Private and not random followers. And totally portable so I can take my network with me if I ever want to leave Onchain WhatsApp 🔥🔥
