A big issue for platforms like farcaster is that it took me 4 years and a ton of effort to build up an audience and following on twitter. The ability to port that network over to farcaster is crucial for ppl to fully migrate to this app. It’s just too much work to go through again for an app with very similar functionality to where your network already exists. I feel like it’s just too difficult to scale up the user base effectively without the ability to port over easily.

This cycle has happened dozens of times on social media. Vine & Periscope are great examples. Is it really YOUR audience if it’s tied to a single platform?

The issue is your audience won't port over in terms of DAU / habit. So at best you get 10-20%. And Elon has shut down the official follow APIs, so any way you try to export would be clunky, have low uptake.

Very true. But there's enough people here that I like and can engage with in a high signal way that it's often worth it, especially ethereum related stuff.

100% I've built a decent following on Twitter, farcaster feels like starting from scratch

this in precisely why we need farcaster so you’re never put in this position again

Yeah platform lock-in sucks. I’ve left a long trail of abandoned social platforms. On each new one my network is smaller because fewer of my peers migrate with me and I care less about cultivating a presence.

What I like about FC is really the ability to cast into channels and find new niche groups and friends. Sure it will take time, but it's more focused and I find it has more potential.

+1 The cold start problem on Farcaster is palpable. I love the community and people, but have very little interest in degen discussions as well.

If you build up a following in Farcaster, in the future you can take that following elsewhere. It should be the last time you need to build a following, unless I’m misunderstanding it. Web2 platforms can and do ban people for no reason and that’s the end of the line

Trying to replicate Twitter on farcaster isn’t a good idea. Need some brand new experience. Probably isn’t worth porting over everyone for Warpcast

True that's why I think the community of platforms like Farcaster will refresh a bit because other people will be big as opposed to twitter and other sites

I doubt porting over a graph from twitter will ever be a thing. Your best bet is that you find something on farcaster that is so valuable to you that you devote your time and energy to move over here. Otherwise it is best to not try to port over.

Top spot in text-first social network has already been taken by Twitter. What would be easier - to make Twitter decentralised or move Twitter users to farcaster?

I think it would be a pretty fun challenge to build a second audience with a difference voice here. But alas, I have the same username on both platforms 😅 So much for A/B testing.

Agreed! I don't what is better, nobody interacting with my posts on here, or a bunch of bots interacting with my posts on twitter 😆

Also IF you ever get “banned” on Warpcast you would have to convince all your followers to change their client from Warpcast to whatever farcaster client you migrated to. Or else they would not see your content.
