I don’t want to engage in divisive political commentary (at least on here) but I’m genuinely shocked at what happened in Syria. They just snapped their fingers and a regime that existed for five decades evaporated into thin air. Anything is possible!

Something about it seems strange, I can't quite place the feeling but it all feels a bit too sudden and almost convinient esp. for western powers Theres also the risk of a power vacuum followed by a salafi led power grab

"Gradually, then all at once" judging by the massive public celebrations, the old regime hasn't had any legitimacy for while already. then it's a preference cascade... as soon as they look weak everyone comes out against, even their own army.
