I wrote a short personal reflection on my recent journey to Syria. Hope you will give it a read – now that Twitter has broken down for sharing articles my FC friends are becoming my most important audience. https://substack.com/inbox/post/156382042

Thanks for sharing this…I found it very touching. TBH I’m not even quite sure of my emotions after reading. The subscribe button didn’t work, though 😅

A very eye-opening story, well written too. I still worry for my fellow Christians in the area. My Church still keeps remembrance of the clergy kidnapped and now likely dead by rebel hands in 2011. Let's hope this relief and politeness extends to everybody, including non-muslims. I've heard many Christians lament the "unfamiliar new faces" for this reason.

What is the next bastion of hope for the free press? In an era of relativism and biased centralized platforms. Where do we give space and bear witness to objectivity and veracity in reporting? Where does one discover this type of content? If not /farcaster where will real journalists and investigative reporting go? Is bluesky co-opting all of this mindshare? I hope not. @dwr.eth big opty here imo…

Really impressive to see the dignity and resilience in the Syrian people despite decades of brutal dictatorship. There is hope for a brighter future. Thank you for sharing! That resilience reminds me of the same quality in the Cuban people we met last year when we visited. Resilience is one of the incredibly good qualities of the human spirit! 250 $DEGEN
