I was so tired last night I forgot to backup my manuscript. I'm giving up on resisting the temptation to re-read my whole WIP. Hopefully a refresher and making a few edits will get me out of this rut.

I have a new approach for learning Kanji. I will skim the rest of my Kanji book (2300ish characters) and only pay close attention to the characters and their English translated meaning. Then I will read a novel with Furigana to find the Japanese readings for the Kanji. Knowing the vague use of the characters via the skimming method + looking up definitions I don't know as I read sounds more fun than textbook reading. (I will note down all Kanji with single Onyomi readings and study those as freebies)

The uproar over on Xitter about the changes to the TOS will go nowhere. Everyone talks about migrating to Bluesky... Bluesky has NO path to profitability and 99% of their users don't make use of the federated features. Thus, another centralized, venture-capital funded social platform that will turn into what you hate. Farcaster interests me because it solves the centralization problem and usability problem. It's venture-capital funded but *actually* has a clear path to profitability with crypto integrations into Warpcast. This belongs in /social

I think I finally figured out what I want my online presence to be. It took several years of thought and experimentation. I'm glad I never blew up or went viral. That could have accidentally cornered me into some niche or persona that doesn't fit. It will take a bit of time to shift direction but I'm in no hurry.

It took me a long time to learn that TEXT is an art in and of itself. A poem or story being written does not make it less than a film, or a comic, or a videogame. There are certain qualities to the written word that create an experience totally unique to this medium.

Current strategy for managing absolute madman story notes: This story follows a 4 act structure. Each act is split into an "Early Notes" section and a "Later Notes" section. You slot all your ideas in a semi-chronological order into these subsections. Then you find their exact place in the story as you write.

I think everyone should be learning another language on the side. Don't stress about it, don't study too hard, just go with the flow and learn as you go. I took an 8ish year break from learning Japanese and I'm trying to get back into the swing of things ðŸ—ū

It's a hard lesson learned for any writer trying to avoid sounding too 'fancy' or 'purple.' An easy way to include outlandish vocabulary without harming the reading experience is by including a character who has an exotic manner of speech. But DON'T make them a main character!
