And yet, it doesn't look like there's a lot worth reading in there πŸ˜†

You're the one bicycling? What a roll reversal! Normally that's the Mormon's job.

For this story I have a 4 Act structure. The current plan is to divide them between 2 books and make a duology. Book one is Acts 1 & 2, book two is Acts 3 & 4.

I'm on chapter 7 of my (millionth) revision of Act I of my fantasy novel. I have 2 (maybe 3) people lined up to beta read. Hopefully it's good enough to entice them to read the whole thing!

This reminds me of some Linux bros who wanted me to write my novel in VIM. (I'm not going to do that lol)

I'm happy to see you had the presence of mind to apply this understanding to your own post. Consistent, even if it undermines your whole point!

It's a cheap way of putting the reader and the main character on the same level. Both are starting in the same unknowing position and experiencing things together. But there are better ways of doing this! And you lose the character depth of personal history & backstory. I think videogame RPGs are the worst offenders!

Writers, I am begging you, please stop memory-wiping your main characters. I know why you do it.

Alright I just reread my first chapter and... It's pretty good. Feeling a bit better about life now.

You're seeing this as well in the copyright/intellectual property space. Copying is stealing, until big tech does it 🀭

I was so tired last night I forgot to backup my manuscript. I'm giving up on resisting the temptation to re-read my whole WIP. Hopefully a refresher and making a few edits will get me out of this rut.

Fun fact about me: I wrote the first draft of my first novel on my mobile phone while commuting to work by bus in Baku, Azerbaijan. Paragraph by paragraph, day by day, 90,000 words came together to form an unreadable story where some characters changed names halfway through. πŸ˜‚ Six drafts later, the novel I published resembled that first draft in protagonist and setting only. But had I not started writing on my phone that one morning, I probably never would've written a novel.

I have a new approach for learning Kanji. I will skim the rest of my Kanji book (2300ish characters) and only pay close attention to the characters and their English translated meaning. Then I will read a novel with Furigana to find the Japanese readings for the Kanji. Knowing the vague use of the characters via the skimming method + looking up definitions I don't know as I read sounds more fun than textbook reading. (I will note down all Kanji with single Onyomi readings and study those as freebies)

I'm calling a total stop to all bright white loading screens until we can figure out what's going on. Who is doing this? Why am I subjected to flashbangs on a regular basis?
