They almost always get killed by a cop anyway. Death doesn’t appear to be a deterrent for such a crime regardless.

I've always wondered: from an ethical standpoint, who has the right to decide whether or not a person's life should end? It's astonishing to think that some individuals can claim to have the authority to judge the life or death of another person, isn't it?

I'm a lawyer, and when you look at it from the point of view of legal philosophy, not emotion, the death penalty is never the solution. It is not a deterrent.

I don't mean to be crass or insensitive, asking genuinely - what is the point of keeping a school shooter alive? Some, maybe most, are minors themselves - so I can accept an argument that their future is worth something. But I'm not convinced the risk-reward calculation is in society's favor

A significant number of the shooters go in expecting to die. The death penalty would absolutely not deter that.
