The U.S. is shifting in its approach towards the Anglophone countries and Europe. Previously it allowed them to maintain the idea that they were equal partners despite the obvious power imbalance. Now it is depriving them that indulgence and openly addressing them as satrapies. Can’t tell if this is a sign of U.S. decline or further ascendance.

Controlled collapse of prior order IMO (better to let it go proactively than to be slowly ambushed by it) Can't pretend to be the hegemon anymore, so need to pivot to suzerain where possible, and otherwise be pure pvp Sad because a lot of nations believed and built their systems around the USA's noble promise. And now it's reneging -- but probably the best available move, ethics aside

I suspect it will be a prosperous surge followed by a severe downturn. But nobody will ever know the exact timeframes, so speculation is not very useful. I've noticed complex systems are simultaneously more robust and more fragile than people give them credit for.

I can't help but see Trump's foreign policy decisions as not congruent with the overall direction of the USA but if I'm honest I guess all Republicans from now on will take this stance to a degree.

I’d bet ascendance, to grow you need to be real

I’d guess ascendance with our technology and cultural leads but it’s gonna be volatile

The impression that it can be anything but decline is an index of the severity of the decline.
