Anyone ever notice the tendency for startups to ship a great initial product, then completely falloff the map? What goes wrong?

I can only imagine that the momentum sweeps people into feeling deflated after the initial rush leaves. That’s when the real work begins.

On a diff tack to the “too much capital corrodes” class of problems… …I wonder how many of these situations can simply be chalked up to “too much technical debt built up on the initial release,” & all subsequent features are disproportionately expensive to implement…& the whole show grinds to a halt.

Vision. Most founders/teams have a great idea, but lack vision beyond the initial realisation of it.

Great initial product -> Raising a round -> Hiring too many people -> Hearing too many ideas -> Founders losing conviction -> Product falls off the map

I can think of several things affecting this, but in the area of crypto/web3, one thing sticks out to me. Once a project is done with it's initial launch and being new, the buzz dies off, and for some that can be almost deadly. Even utility projects have it rough if it's not a daily-use item or some money scheme.

Too much focus on product, not enough focus on distribution (speaking from experience)

Can only comment on crypto industry not web2, but sometimes they make so much money they just dont care anymore, it takes a certain person to keep shipping after the money, they have to be working for a purpose

IMO, a lot of token pumped on just potential roadmaps. Teams got to liquidate without doing any more work. Not saying every team did it, but def could name a few.
