Anyone ever notice the tendency for startups to ship a great initial product, then completely falloff the map? What goes wrong?

I can think of several things affecting this, but in the area of crypto/web3, one thing sticks out to me. Once a project is done with it's initial launch and being new, the buzz dies off, and for some that can be almost deadly. Even utility projects have it rough if it's not a daily-use item or some money scheme.
