can’t even fathom what this would do, but I assume only make them further complacent than they already are we desperately need to move to a results based payment system for those roles in society going forward

They only get the salary if their policies generate proportionate revenues (and/or improvements to some other more important societal metrics).

There’d be a lot more competition leading to better surface-level options. The problem is democracy selects for popularity rather than effectiveness so they would just be more charismatic, not necessarily better.

They would be less corrupted I suppose? But it will require something like a "liquid democracy" (= being able to change our vote during a mandate if they do something we don't like)

I’m sympathetic to the idea that it could create more competitive races, but I think you’d quickly get diminishing returns after a much lower number I think where higher salaries would make a bigger dent on candidate quantity and quality would be for local elected officials
